Environmental Management Plans for CQUniversity Campuses

Talis was engaged by Central Queensland University (CQU) to develop two Environmental Management Plans (EMPs) for their Bundaberg and Rockhampton North campuses. The goal was to integrate sustainability seamlessly into key operations and infrastructure such as teaching facilities, administration and staff areas, sports and recreation, residential precincts, parking, roads, and footpaths.

Core Purpose:

  • Minimise and manage environmental impacts: The EMPs focus on minimising, managing, and mitigating the potential environmental impacts of campus operations.
  • Sustainability integration: The EMPs are designed to align with CQU’s existing Sustainability Framework and Policy.

Key Highlights:

  • The EMPs cover key environmental aspects of CQU’s Sustainability Framework, including Waste, Water, Energy, and Biodiversity.
  • The plans consider both voluntary and statutory Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) requirements, as well as alignment with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
  • All key campus operations will comply with relevant State and Commonwealth environmental regulations, approvals, commitments, and contractual agreements.
  • An action plan has been developed to guide CQU on the initial implementation of the EMPs, with priority ratings for each action.
