Talis was commissioned by Newcrest to prepare a waste strategy for non-mineral waste generated at Lihir Gold Mine on Lihir Island in Papua New Guinea. The strategy assessed the sources of waste, waste types generated and the current waste management system. Through this, opportunities for improvement and new waste management options were identified. The strategy provided Newcrest with a variety of options for the short and long term to manage waste more efficiently, appropriately and in compliance with legislative conditions.
