WMRR Relaunches Landfill Group

| 2 min read

Waste Management and Resource Recovery Association of Australia (WMRR) is relaunching the WA Landfill Working Group to become a Landfill and Transfer Station (LATS) Working Group to recognise the joint roles that landfill facilities often must play, particularly in the regional areas of WA.

WMRR is the national peak body for the $15bn waste and resource recovery industry. Their mission is to provide a peak national forum to foster the necessary structural and cultural changes within their membership to enable the waste management industry to respond to the demands for integrated resource management services. Some of WMRR’s key objectives are to facilitate investment in resource recovery and remanufacturing capacity, reform state regulatory frameworks to provide long-term certainty for investment in the sector and streamline and improve consistency and clarity in state regulatory frameworks.

Matthew Hobley, Waste Engineer, and Chris Stannard, Waste Infrastructure Lead, are both active members of the working group as the Vice-Chair and Chair, respectively. They are both experts in the field, specialising in creating tailored solutions for clients in areas such as landfills, community recycling centres and waste transfer stations. On the 22nd of May, LATS WA will host their next meeting which will include discussions on topics such as battery fires, The WA Landfill Levy, and the upcoming E-Waste Landfill Ban and then Matthew will be presenting on water balance models and leachate management for WA, including design considerations for managing back-to-back wet years and large unseasonal storm events.
