International Women’s Day at Talis Consultants

| 2 min read

Every day provides an opportunity to advocate for women and work towards a future of equal opportunities. Let’s accelerate this progress.

We were honoured to host Leanne Barron, CEO of Starick, a not-for-profit organisation supporting women and children escaping domestic and family violence. Starick’s vision is to build futures free from violence for women, children, and the community as a whole. They tackle domestic violence by providing refuge for women and children and raising awareness of the importance of communication to children in the community by collaborating with schools, sports centres and other companies. Leanne has dedicated over 30 years to helping women and has been instrumental in leading Starick.

Some important statistics remind us of the urgency of this cause:
– One in 5 women in Australia experiences violence from her partner.
– One woman dies every week in Australia due to domestic and family violence.
– 1.6 million women in Australia have experienced some form of domestic or family violence.
– Escaping domestic or family violence is a major contributor to homelessness among women and children.

Leanne’s passionate speech underscored the crucial need for creating a safe environment for women and children. It was a poignant reminder that addressing domestic violence is not solely the responsibility of women; men play an equally vital role. At Talis, we firmly believe that both men and women must engage in these discussions, as everyone has the ability to effect change and contribute to making our environment safer for all.

International Women’s Day serves as a reminder that every day is an opportunity to empower women, stand up for women, include women, invest in women, continue to support women, uplift women, advocate for women’s rights, celebrate women’s achievements, prioritise women’s voices, champion gender equality, foster women’s leadership, respect women’s choices, promote women’s education and career opportunities, create safe spaces for women, listen to women’s experiences, amplify women’s voices, challenge gender stereotypes, ensure equal pay for equal work, support women’s health and well-being, encourage women’s participation in decision-making, value women’s contributions and advance women’s rights globally.
